It was not meant to be. Following a penalty shootout in the bizarre final match of the play-offs, ADO Den Haag was unable to secure promotion to the Eredivisie. Despite this disappointment, we should commend the players and the technical staff on their fantastic performance throughout the season. We are proud of our team and our performance.

A very tumultuous season that was marked by a six-point deduction, a replacement of coaches, postponed matches, and matches without spectators culminated in the final of the play-offs for promotion to the Eredivisie. We do not have to explain how that ended; everyone was witness to that. At the same time, we would like to take this opportunity to thank head coach Giovanni Franken, as well as the entire staff and the players for the great performance this season. We proudly look back on a season in which new heroes rose to the challenge and a distinctive Hague team was created: a team that demonstrated strength and character.

Giovanni Franken
Giovanni Franken will not return to the role of head coach at the beginning of the 2022/2023 season. He will focus on obtaining his UEFA PRO diploma this coming season. At the same time, ADO Den Haag greatly appreciates Giovanni Franken’s efforts and achievements since being appointed head coach. Due to the arrival of a new coach and staff, Franken will not be a part of the first team’s staff this coming season. Instead he will take on the role as head coach of our Under 21 team.

Edwin Grünholz
Edwin Grünholz will not return to ADO Den Haag next year. By mutual agreement, the contract has been terminated. Needless to say, we would like to extend our sincere gratitude to Edwin Grünholz for his contribution to the team’s performance this past year.

ADO Den Haag will provide more information about the arrangement of the new staff shortly.
